Why the New Abortion Laws don’t bother the Sea Turtles.

Posted on May 16, 2019

Normally, I tend to avoid discussions on abortion. Just bad form old boy, very bad form. The reason is rather simple, and I am sure you are used to them too. Visceral Reactions, no matter what your take is on the subject. Nobody agrees, everyone has their own point of view. The Middle Ground? Is for whoosies. But the subject has come to the forefront lately. With two States, Georgia and Alabama, enacting new laws that for all intents and purposes, outlaw abortion. Neither of these laws will survive for long, and both will die in the courts, to be ignored by the Supreme Court. All of this is, of course, political posturing. Reactions from Republican lawmakers in response to Democratic lawmakers in…

Keeping up with the Opinion Rat Race.

Posted on May 6, 2019

I came to a realization the other day. I can’t keep up. I try, mostly in that gray matter between my ears. I see an article, or hear a story on the radio, occasionally catch a news program and say to myself “Well, that would be fun to blog about!” But of course I have a life, I have kids, a home, some blonde Irish chick that tells me what to do about my life, kids, and home. And when I find that moment to sit in front of my laptop? The moment is gone. That thing I wanted to opine about? Not important anymore.   It’s a fast pace world out there my friends.   In our multi-media world, the news…

Belittling Anti-Vaxxers.

Calling someone stupid is usually a conversation killer. Just doesn’t give you much wiggle room to continue talking. We all do it, in one form or another. Sometimes we are blunt. “Hey idiot! Put your blinker on next time!” ┬áIs a good conversation killer. It is unlikely the other driver is going to answer you verbally. You will probably get a profane hand gesture as a response. “Blinker please!” Is more polite, but you are still calling them an idiot for their mistake. However you may get a ‘Sorry’ or a contrite look with a polite wave. Admonishing others for their mistakes is almost a given nowadays. On Social Media, we love to do that. We dole out our 2 cents about…

Socialism will work…this time around.

Posted on March 6, 2019

One thing you can say about Socialist, they are a tenacious bunch. Unlike other philosophical ideas that have come and gone, socialist just can’t leave the idea alone. They try it here, they try it there, and well, they just don’t give up. In the most basic understanding, socialism is a great idea. Look at it this way. People should have a place to live, ability to work, have equality and a voice among the classes. In fact, social classes need to disappear. Chucked into the garbage heap of Feudal Lords and Serfdom. Let’s face it, working in the fields all day long to make your local Baron rich? Not a great life. Few people would argue with socialistic ideas. We would all…

Why Your Opinion Matters.

Posted on March 5, 2019

“…But thinking makes it so.”   If you’ve stumbled across this blog, welcome. This is my second blog I’ve started in the past 3 years of blogging here on WordPress. It took me a while to start this one, and it is a little different from my family friendly blog I begun with. This being my first post on The Opinant.   Opinant…what?   The word ‘Opinant’ comes from one William Thackeray. A novelist, and Satirist, he combined the words Opine and ant. In what some assume was a variant of the French word, which means someone who gives an opinion in a deliberation. The definition is “A person who opines or forms an opinion.” Meaning, a Opiner, in modern usage of…
